St Albans and District Foodbank

The St Albans and District Foodbank was established in May 2014 as a member of The Trussell Trust’s network of food banks. It is supported by a wide variety of churches, community groups, schools and individuals. The Foodbank is here to support people in a crisis by providing access to emergency food parcels and by offering support in signposting to specialist services that can offer financial advice, mental health support etc. When people visit one of the 7 (soon to be 8) food banks in the district, they are given three days’ worth of emergency food, fresh fruit and vegetables, eggs, and bread, plus some essential non-food items such as cleaning products and toiletries. Working with Citizens Advice (based at the centres during the week) and other specialist agencies the foodbank aims to signpost clients so that they can receive help to overcome the issues that gave rise to their need to visit a foodbank.

In the last year alone, St Albans & District Foodbank distributed over 10,000 three-day emergency food parcels.
