Scott Smith is an award-winning British chef with extensive experience in Michelin-starred restaurants across the UK, including Arbutus, Wild Honey and Odette’s in London, and Sugar Boat in Helensburgh, Scotland.

 

In 2021, Scott joined forces with James McLean to establish The Oarsman Bistro Pub & Wine Bar in Marlow. His leadership and culinary expertise quickly gained recognition and within eight months of opening, The Oarsman was included in the Michelin Guide. In 2023 it was named Best Pub in Buckinghamshire and Newcomer of the Year in the Top 50 Gastropubs.

 

In 2026 The Oarsman will again be recognised in the top 100 list for Top 50 Gastropubs as well as featuring in Square Meals Top 100 UK Restaurants.

 

Known for his exceptional cooking and focus on local, seasonal ingredients, Scott’s approach emphasises "nose-to-tail" cuisine and respect for British produce. His passion for local produce and commitment to building relationships with local suppliers shines through in his menus, highlight key ingredients that are in season.

 

Scott blends traditional British cuisine with his Scottish heritage, creating a unique dining experience that merges classic dishes with innovative twists, showcasing his creativity and deep respect for culinary traditions.
